Administrative Assistant - Public Services and Planning & Building Location Albion, MI :

City of Albion Full-time Accounting Clerk - General

Starting wage is $42,808.51 - $52,061.64 yearly with union step increases. The position is Under the direction of the Director of Public Services and the Code Enforcement Officer, this position performs a wide variety of administrative and clerical duties in support of the daily operations of both departments. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for scheduling, document preparation, filing, answering phones, processing permits, maintaining records and inventories, and assisting the public. Work is performed in accordance with written policies, regulations, or verbal instructions from department heads or their designees. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in clerical or administrative support work is preferred. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF software, with the ability to create and edit documents and data sets. Strong data entry skills are required, with a minimum typing speed of 40-45 words per minute and a high degree of accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with a thorough knowledge of modern office procedures and proficiency in operating standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, scanners, and calculators.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and file management skills, and familiarity with municipal operations, policies, and regulatory functions—particularly within Public Services and Planning & Building—is highly desirable. The ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions, work independently, and maintain positive working relationships with the public, elected officials, contractors, and City staff is critical. Experience in processing permits and managing electronic records is preferred. Candidates should also be capable of compiling, reviewing, and summarizing data for reports. Reliability, punctuality, and a professional demeanor are expected.
