The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Western Carolina University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anthropology to begin August 1, 2025.
We seek a colleague with theoretically informed and community-engaged ethnographic experience, who will be qualified to teach introductory and upper-level sociocultural anthropology courses in our curriculum, particularly in the areas of digital and/or UX ethnography, broadly construed. We are interested in candidates who use digital methods to explore fundamental anthropological questions, including but not limited to: families and kinship; religion and folklore; medical anthropology and Indigenous health; and death and dying. Geographic region of interest is open. We invite applicants who will complement or expand the program's strengths in Indigenous Studies, Southeastern Archaeology, Forensic Anthropology, and/or Media Studies. The successful candidate will also contribute to the university's Liberal Studies Program by regularly teaching Introduction to Cultural Anthropology. The Department of Anthropology and Sociology emphasizes excellence in teaching with a 3-3 course load that encourages engagement and a well-defined, active scholarly agenda.Ph.D. in Anthropology
