Job Description

Amerlux, a pioneer in the lighting industry for over 35 years, is seeking a Buyer  to join our Purchasing team in our Oakland, NJ office. This position is on-site five days per week.

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, and services required for the production of commercial lighting fixtures. This role supports manufacturing operations by ensuring timely, cost-effective, and quality sourcing of parts from both domestic and international suppliers. The Buyer will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and logistics teams to maintain optimal inventory levels, support new product development, and drive supply chain efficiency.

Key responsibilities include supplier selection and negotiation, purchase order management, cost analysis, and coordination of import logistics to meet production schedules and company objectives. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and communication skills, experience in global sourcing, and a solid understanding of manufacturing and supply chain processes within a technical or lighting-related industry.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Source and procure components, materials, and services required for manufacturing commercial lighting fixtures.
  • Identify, qualify, and manage domestic and international suppliers to ensure quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve optimal cost savings and supplier performance.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and compliance with company requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production planning to maintain appropriate stock levels and avoid shortages or excess.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to source components for new product introductions and design changes.
  • Evaluate supplier performance through metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
  • Coordinate with logistics and customs teams on import documentation, freight arrangements, and delivery schedules.
  • Resolve supply issues, discrepancies, and quality concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and contribute to ERP/MRP system accuracy and reporting.
  • Stay current with market trends, material costs, and global supply chain developments to identify cost-reduction and risk-mitigation opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and supply chain functions.

Skill & Experiences Include:

  • Bachelor Degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Manufacturing Industry experience preferred, including the use of ERP/MRP applications (Oracle/SAP preferred) experience working with Google Sheets, Smart Sheets, or Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in the Lighting Industry is highly preferred.

The salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000 annually, based on candidates skills and experiences.
