Job Description

Overview:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Camp Maintenance Assistant at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides quality experience to both youth and their families. Responsibilities include supporting the camp director in keeping facilities clean and sanitary; supporting the Facility Manager in keeping the facility safe; and supporting the Kitchen Manager in keeping the kitchen clean and sanitary. This is a seasonal position.

Responsibilities:
  • Works under direction of the camp director facility manager to assist with small maintenance needs around camp, including, but not limited to, repairing doors, toilets, benches, plumbing
  • Maintains the facilities of the camp at a high standard of cleanliness
  • Cleans, sanitizes, restocks inventory, and checks for failures at least once a day in the bathrooms and shower house(s)
  • Assists the kitchen team with dishes and maintaining health department standards for sanitation
  • Work under the direction of the camp director to achieve tasks as assigned at the camp facility
  • Maintains the health department's requirements to ensure a safe and clean area
  • Role model Camp’s professional standards
  • Participate and contribute to Staff meetings
  • Create a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth and staff; models relationship-building skills in all interactions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred
  • Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; will be provided in training if candidate does not have current certification
  • Previous experience working in sanitary roles and/or maintenance roles preferred
  • Previous experience working with children and staff in a camp setting preferred
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
