Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

Contract Position Title: Catholic Music Director

II. Scope of Responsibilities:

a. Contractor shall provide musical planning, coordination, and directing for the Catholic Worship Service on Saturday evening and Sunday morning for the Catholic Community at McConnell Air Force Base under the supervision of the base Wing Chaplain and in cooperation with the assigned chaplain in charge of the worship service. The contractor shall be able to perform all necessary assigned tasks and shall be qualified as stated in the Statement of Work. The contractor shall support all McConnell AFB Chapel activities and functions as required by this Statement of Work.

III. Qualifications:

The contractor:

a. Shall have a minimum of three years of experience playing and leading traditional music for a Catholic Worship Service.

b. Shall be able to sight-read music.

c. Shall be experienced in choral harmony.

d. Shall have musical proficiency in order to direct a volunteer choir for the express purpose of congregational singing of hymns.

e. Shall demonstrate a familiarity with a wide range of musical selections to include traditional, liturgical, and contemporary styles; all of which will be tailored to meet the worship and liturgical needs of the particular service wherein assigned.

f. Shall be willing to work with chapel staff personnel and program volunteers of all religious backgrounds and faith beliefs.

g. Shall possess a knowledge of Catholic teachings, customs and traditions.

h. Shall maintain professionalism, discipline and respect when dealing with religious/spiritual beliefs outside their own personal views.

i. Shall be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

IV. Duties and Responsibilities:

The contractor:

a. Shall lead the music during worship service and associated events to serve the Catholic Worship Service community.

b. Shall plan and coordinate music selection with the assigned chaplain no less than one (1) week in advance.

c. Shall select hymns and coordinate all music support requirements for the Catholic programs tailored to meet the worship and liturgical needs of the particular service.

d. Shall send the music selection via e-mail to the Catholic coordinator and all members of the choir in the same time requirement.

e. Shall coordinate with the volunteer and contracted musicians when they are required to perform at scheduled musical activities to include services and rehearsals.

f. Shall arrive for set-up 45 minutes prior to the start time of all services, to include Sunday service, holiday services and any additional services.

g. Shall adapt performance and rehearsals to altered worship service content and adjusted times. It is understood that service times and content have the potential to change due to military mission requirements levied on the Chapel staff, the evolving needs of the worship community, and/or the appointment of a newly assigned chaplain to the worship service.

h. Shall have custodial responsibility for supplies used for his/her work, such as songbooks, sheet music.

i. Shall assume responsibility for restoring the performance and rehearsal areas to a neat and orderly condition after each performance or rehearsal. All materials will be displayed in a neat and orderly fashion.

j. Shall ensure all scheduled activities are coordinated with the chapel staff.

k. Shall conduct themselves in a professional and business-like manner.

l. Scheduled services not accomplished due to base closure (weather, exercise or actual alert) will be accomplished as soon as possible after reopening occurs. The chaplain office shall communicate with the contractor when the next service or cancellation will occur.
