REPORTS TO : Executive Director, Literacy & Humanities
DEFINITION : Provides leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction in Music, Dance, Theater, and Visual Arts. Supervises professional staff and ensures that all arts programs align with system-wide goals and priorities. Maintains continual expertise in progressive, culturally responsive, and student-centered pedagogy across the Integrated Arts. Performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES : - Oversees the development of curriculum in the integrated arts to include visual arts, music, dance, and theater for pre-kindergarten through grade 12, ensuring alignment, coherence, and equitable access across all courses.
- Provides leadership in the identification of progressive evidence-based strategies to support student-centered instruction in the Integrated Arts.
- Provides leadership in the development of curriculum-embedded assessments that allow students multiple pathways to prove mastery of all state and national standards.
- Arranges and administers countywide enrichment opportunities for Integrated Arts students at all levels of instruction.
- Coordinates countywide events, showcases, and exhibitions that celebrate student achievement and elevate the role of the arts in school culture and community engagement.
- Designs, facilitates, and coordinates effective professional learning experiences that lead to the development, implementation, and evaluation of school and system-wide Integrated Arts programs.
- Selects and approves textbooks, digital resources, musical instruments, equipment, supplies, and materials to support programs across the Integrated Arts.
- Assists with the implementation of the integrated arts programs pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, working closely with administrators, teacher leaders, and classroom teachers especially in the implementation of student-centered instruction.
- Develops & maintains partnerships with local cultural institutions, local colleges, and other community arts organizations that benefit the instructional program.
- Collaborates with the state art education associations to support students’ participation in state events.
- Communicates with families, advisory, and advocacy organizations.
- Develops, communicates, and interprets countywide policies and issues regarding Integrated Arts programs.
- Develops and administers operating, capital, and other budgets, and monitors business operations to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources. Plans, evaluates, and manages budgets that support the needs of the schools and allows for the continuing program of instruction in the Integrated Arts
- Supports recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality arts educators in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources and school leaders.
- Provides parents, guardians, and community stakeholder groups with information and strategies that can be implemented with students to enhance student learning.
- Supports the evaluation of the performance and professional growth and development of staff within the Integrated Arts, including support to school-based administrators in the appraisal process.
- Supervises the maintenance and equipment needs of the BCPS piano and instrument shop to allow for the continuing service of repair of instruments to schools.
- Represents BCPS in local, state, and national forums related to Integrated Arts education and maintains active participation in professional associations such as MMEA, MDEA, MTEA, MAEA, and their national counterparts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Education, Training, and Experience :
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree.
- Five years’ teaching or related experience.
- Three years’ leadership/management experience in an education setting.
Licenses and Certificates :
- Possession of a Maryland Educator Advanced Professional Certificate in an area appropriate to the assignment with an Administrator I endorsement.
OR - Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator Advanced Professional License in an area appropriate to the assignment and Administrator I Licensure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of music education.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and implementation.
- Technology competency and knowledgeable about technology integration in the performing arts.
- Knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
- Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstration of strong leadership, management, and human relations skills.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS : Work is performed in an office environment and in the field. Work in the office includes the operation of office equipment and personal computers. Work in the field includes monitoring of instrumental and choral music programs in schools and concert venues. Field work may also involve the moving of light equipment and the set-up of choral risers and music stands. Work includes travel to various sites around the county.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Requires some evening and week-end attendance at various musical events and activities.
GRADE: Grade 11 on the BCPS CASE 12-month pay scale
SALARY: $106,830 - $152,731

Pre-Employment Requirements: - All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
