Costume Designer

Job Description: The Costume Designer is responsible for maintaining the Costume Shop and designing costumes for productions in Dance, Theatre, and Musical Theatre. This is a part-time, nine-month position. The position reports to the Chair of the Division of Arts and Humanities.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities: • Manage and maintain the Costume Shop:
• Organize and maintain the Costume Shop so that all costumes can be easily located
• Ensure all costumes are properly hung and stored
• Maintain costumes that need special care, mending, and preservation
• Periodically purge costumes that are beyond repair
• Catalog new and existing costumes in the Costume Collection Catalog
• Design, build, construct, fit, purchase online, launder, maintain, and rent costumes for all plays, musicals, and dance concerts
• Communicate with directors and choreographers regarding their costume needs for productions, course projects, and photo/film shoots
• Attend rehearsals to see the productions prior to designing costumes
• Build, construct, and fit costumes for productions
• Work with Production Manager to rent costumes if needed
• In consultation with the Production Manager and Directors, attend production meetings with technical and design crews
• Attend Tech Week for dress rehearsals to ensure the smooth running of costume needs

• Ability to work evenings and weekends
Qualifications:Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in theatre or related field, or equivalent professional experience
Experience: • 2+ years' experience with costume construction, production space management, theatrical productions
• Knowledge of current costume construction techniques including machine and hand sewing
Physical Requirements: • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and standing
• Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds regularly
Salary: The salary for this position is $33 an hour
Hours Expectation: Part-time, typically 15 hours a week from August to May; Increased hours during production weeks (~6 times a year)
