Our technology simplifies the process for insurance brokers to identify optimal coverage for their clients continuously, and this is just the beginning. Our mission is to revolutionize underwriting for better, faster, and smarter processes. As we pursue this goal, we are implementing a data-driven business model that fundamentally reshapes how insurance products are sold. Established in 2018, Harbor.ai is Venture-backed and based in New York.

About the Role: We're looking for a Data Engineer/MLOps Engineer to build and maintain the data infrastructure and machine learning platforms that power our insurance underwriting automation. You'll work at the intersection of data engineering and machine learning operations, ensuring our ML models are deployed efficiently and our data pipelines are robust and scalable.

Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of data pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow)
  • Experience with ML experimentation and model tracking platforms (e.g., MLflow, Weights & Biases)
  • Expertise in building and maintaining data warehouses and lakes
  • Strong background in ETL/ELT processes and data modeling (e.g., dbt)
  • Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)
  • Track record of implementing monitoring and observability solutions (e.g., Datadog)
  • Experience integrating and managing multiple data sources via APIs
  • Knowledge of data versioning tools and practices (DVC, Git LFS)
  • Strong understanding of data security and compliance requirements

Preferred:

  • Experience with interpretable ML methods (e.g., SHAP, LIME, rule-based models)
  • Published work in ML/AI conferences or journals (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI)
  • Background in Bayesian statistics and probabilistic programming
  • Experience with reinforcement learning or natural language processing
  • Knowledge of insurance industry data structures and standards
  • Background in feature store implementation and management
  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks
  • Startup experience
  • Understanding of SOC II compliance requirements

What You'll Do:

  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines for processing complex insurance data
  • Build and maintain MLOps infrastructure for model deployment and monitoring
  • Integrate and manage data from multiple sources (commercial APIs, open-source datasets)
  • Implement robust data versioning and lineage tracking for ML training datasets
  • Design systems for periodic model updates and dataset refresh cycles
  • Help to lead the implementation of data quality monitoring and validation systems
  • Collaborate with data scientists to streamline model deployment processes
  • Implement and maintain data observability solutions
  • Drive best practices for data governance and documentation
