Position Summary
The Designer is responsible for the creation of end items and component math data while receiving direction and guidance from the Program Engineer, Account Manager, and Program Manager involved in the various projects within the ISG Group. The designer should have experience in creating and modifying various seal designs within the vehicle environment data provided by the customer. Mold design and class A surfacing design experience is recommended. Along with sealing design, experience in the various fluid product lines (fuel and vapor, brake, TOC, heating and cooling) that Cooper Standard produces is preferred. The ISG Group deals with customers that use different CAD softwares (CATIA V5, NX, and Solidworks) so the designer would need to have an advance knowledge of at least one of those softwares and a willingness to learn the other softwares. Finally, the ISG group deals with short lead times and quick design cycles so the candidate would need to be able to perform in a fast-paced working environment.
Primary Responsibilities - Knowledgeable in automotive applications, assembly and component design (i.e. CAD Software, PLM Solutions), while still acquiring higher-knowledge and skills
- Create and maintain 3D math data and 2D drawings as required for customer manufacturing and internal engineering standards
- Understands and shares best practices, processes and customers. Contribute to standards and best practices as required
- Understand customer required standards/design guides and uses this understanding to accomplish strategic objectives
- Understanding of Cooper Standard product lines outside of main discipline
- Creation of assembly and component drawings while utilizing internal and external resources which conform to customer and company standards/design guidelines. Able to train and mentor in this requirement
- Assist engineers in the design of major vehicle systems, assemblies or components in compliance with performance, design costs, design for manufacturability and capabilities
- Mentor and support new designers
- Perform advanced/abstract engineering design studies from OEM/Tier customer supplied vehicle environments, sketches, and models or verbal instructions
- Technical interfaces with the customer across multiple product lines within discipline, design, manufacturing plants, testing and suppliers as required
- Estimate timing required to perform CAD related assignments and meet customer specified timing
- Strong knowledge of automotive vehicle layouts and interfacing components
- Ability to solve problems in complex situations with minimal supervision; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience, judgment and advanced problem solving tools
- May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
Education And Qualifications - Four year Engineering/CAD education preferred
- In depth extensive knowledge of one customer three to five years, or multiple customer experience
- Advanced knowledge of respective CAD software (i.e. NX, CATIA V5, SolidWorks and Team Center OEM configuration)
- In-depth knowledge of GD&T and application for specific product lines
- Demonstrate selection of appropriate design solutions to meet the needs of the product
- Demonstrate meeting timing needs and shows good planning skills
- Ability to explain complex information to others in a conscientious manner
- Ability to provide solutions to various automotive component issues
- Must show the ability to work under tight deadlines and escalate issues appropriately
- Ability to adapt to various customer environments
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced working environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary
Work Environment/Work Conditions - Professional Office Environment
- Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
- Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
- Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
