Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project (ETIPP) Manager

Location : New Orleans, LA

About the Position
The STEM NOLA ETIPP Manager will work directly with remote communities, national laboratories, and other ETIPP partners to support resilience and energy transition efforts for rural communities. This role includes engaging communities to transition to renewable energy and improve energy efficiency as part of the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project (ETIPP), led by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

Background on STEM NOLA and ETIPP
STEM NOLA, a leader in STEM education and community outreach, partners with NREL through ETIPP to support energy resilience in isolated and underserved communities. This collaboration aims to empower community stakeholders with knowledge, skills, and tools to support sustainable energy systems and community self-reliance. As the ETIPP regional partner in this initiative, STEM NOLA brings together local leaders, residents, and resources to address unique energy challenges and facilitate knowledge sharing across communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct community outreach, education, and engagement to build awareness and understanding of energy challenges and opportunities.
  • Provide insights on regional characteristics, including culture, economic conditions, energy needs, and local networks.
  • Support community application processes for ETIPP participation, guiding selected communities through onboarding and energy planning.
  • Collaborate with NREL technical teams and local representatives to define and implement specific technical assistance projects.
  • Facilitate regional and national networks for sharing knowledge, innovations, and best practices.
  • Administer and support ETIPP programs in collaboration with NREL and STEM NOLA, ensuring effective project execution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners to ensure smooth project completion and follow-up on technical assistance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant experience, ideally in community development or energy transitions.
  • Proven experience working with Indigenous or rural communities.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to engage diverse groups and build relationships across various demographics.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including budget oversight and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and willing to travel to rural communities as needed.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft, Adobe, Google, etc.).
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with microgrids, isolated power systems, and rural utility operations.
  • Experience in technical assistance, especially in energy projects.
  • Background in leading workshops, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Prior experience in rural or cross-cultural environments, especially in Alaska or similar settings.
  • Ability to collaborate within a network of diverse organizations.
  • Knowledge of energy policies, microgrid technologies, and rural utility infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with non-profit work and community-driven projects.

Working Conditions
The ETIPP Manager will work at our location at 6600 Plaza Dr. New Orleans, LA 70127, however some travel to workshops, partner meetings, or communities, may also be required.

Compensation
This is a full-time position for a three year term with possibility of extension (subject to annual renewal), with an annual salary range of $60,000-$75,000 based on experience. The position includes paid leave, holidays, retirement benefits, and optional healthcare reimbursement.
