Job description

This is a part-time position based in Cleveland, OH, that can possibly become full-time.

The position is hybrid, but mostly remote.

The Open and Affirming (ONA) Coalition's Finance Director reports directly to the Executive Director and works in collaboration with the Coalition staff and the Leadership Team (Board).

The position is responsible for the legal and financial aspects of the organization.

About the Coalition

The ONA Coalition is a 501(c)3 non-profit with offices in downtown Cleveland affiliated with the United Church of Christ, a Protestant denomination of more than 4,000 churches with 800,000 members. It advocates for the full inclusion in the church of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and all persons of any gender identity, and organizes churches to defend the human rights of LGBTQ+ persons. The Coalition is approaching 53 years in operation and has certified over 1,900 churches and organizations.

The Finance Director

1. Responsible for bank entries and reconciliations.

2. Enters direct debits and deposits from bank records and any other sources. Enter credit card charges.

3. Entering donations into Network for Good and sending acknowledgements to donors.

4. Responsible for transferring deposit information from Network for Good to QuickBooks.

5. Checking Network For Good regularly to acknowledge online donations.

6. Tracking the high and consistent donors and keeping the Executive Director informed.

7. Manually enter ACH and PayPal givers’ donations.

8. Assists in maintaining Network for Good database with entry updates.

9. Track and pay outstanding invoices.

10. Set up and maintain payroll for staff.

11. Make payroll journal entries.

12. Track cash flow.

13. In coordination with the Executive Director, develop proposed budgets for the full operation of the organization.

14. In coordination with the team and planning groups, develop proposed budgets for events.

15. Prepare monthly financial reports such as a Statement of Activities to Budget and Balance Sheet.

16. Prepare any other financial reports as requested.

17. Tracks, files, and keeps up-to-date regulatory and governmental compliances for non-profit status.

18. Files taxes yearly.

19. Creating and sending end-of-year donation statements.

20. Conducts background checks as needed.

21. Place and track resource purchases.

22. Assist in fundraising efforts.

23. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA) preferred.

2. Extensive experience in public accounting or financial services, with a proven track record in a leadership role.

3. Experience with QuickBooks and preferred experience with Network for Good.

4. Strong understanding of non-profit regulations and compliance: knowledge of laws and regulations that govern non-profit organizations, including tax laws and compliance.

5. Experience with financial management and accounting: financial statements, budgets, and financial reporting.

6. Experience budgeting and forecasting: ability to create and manage budgets, as well as forecast future financial needs.

7. Experience with financial reporting: creating and presenting financial reports to stakeholders, including staff, board members, donors, and grantors.

8. Experience in grant management: knowledge of grant writing, including tracking and reporting on grant expenses and deliverables.

9. Experience with fundraising and with development would be an advantage: familiarity with fundraising strategies and development, including donor relations and database management.

10. Excellent leadership skills: setting goals, delegating tasks, and providing guidance and support.

11. Excellent communication skills: strong communication skills including the ability to clearly explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

12. Experience with risk management: identifying and mitigating financial risks to the organization.

13. Experience with technology: proficiency in financial software and systems including accounting software, donor databases, and grant management systems.

14. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

15. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, and to lead others through change, as well as follow to achieve shared goals.
