Golf Course Superintendent
Country Club in Flushing, Michigan is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Duties:
1. Course Maintenance:
• Overseeing the maintenance of the golf course, including greens, fairways, roughs, tees, and bunkers.
• Ensuring the course is in optimal playing condition.
• Implementing turf management practices to maintain healthy grass.
2. Staff Management:
• Hiring, training, and supervising maintenance staff.
• Scheduling work assignments and ensuring staff adhere to standards and policies.
3. Irrigation Management:
• Managing irrigation systems to ensure proper water usage.
• Monitoring weather conditions and adjusting irrigation schedules accordingly.
4. Pest and Disease Control:
• Identifying and managing pests and diseases that affect turf health.
• Applying pesticides and other treatments safely and effectively.
5. Equipment Management:
• Overseeing the maintenance and repair of all course equipment.
• Ensuring machinery is properly operated and maintained.
6. Budget Management:
• Preparing and managing the maintenance budget.
• Procuring supplies and materials cost-effectively.
7. Course Improvement:
• Planning and implementing course improvement projects.
• Collaborating with architects and contractors on renovations or redesigns.
8. Environmental Stewardship:
• Implementing sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact.
• Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
9. Communication:
• Coordinating with the golf club management and other stakeholders.
• Addressing member and guest concerns regarding course conditions.
Requirements:
A degree or certification in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field.
Several years of experience in golf course maintenance, often starting in entry-level positions and advancing to superintendent.
Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil science, pest control, irrigation systems, and golf course design.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining golf course equipment.
Many superintendents obtain certifications from professional organizations such as the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
