Lateral Hire Opportunities
Clark County Fire District 6 is establishing 18-month eligibility lists with the intent to hire Firefighter/Paramedics (FF/PM) to begin employment April 1, 2025. We are hiring for Lateral FF/PM positions. Qualified candidates who are licensed Paramedics are encouraged to apply.
A lateral firefighter is defined as an individual with a minimum of 3 continuous years full time experience with a professional all-hazards fire department. If you do not meet the requirements, please apply through the entry level posting.

Salary & Benefits:
Salary Range (2025):
$101,028 - $137,998 per year for Firefighter/Paramedic
Schedule:
4-Platoon Shift Schedule: 24hr on/48hr off, followed by 24hr on/96hr off (11 debit days annually)
Comprehensive Benefits Package:
Medical & Dental for employees and dependents
Deferred Compensation: $250/month employee contribution, plus 5.5% employer contribution
Tuition Reimbursement
Education Incentives: 2.0% for AA Degree, 3.0% for BA/BS Degree
Vacation Accrual: 12-25.5 hrs/month (based on years of service)
Sick Leave Accrual: 16 hrs/month
Sick Leave advancement: 120 hrs available at start of employment

LEOFF II Retirement System
126 hours of Holiday Leave
Longevity pay based on years of service (4% at 10 years, 8.5% at 25 years)

Application Process:
Written Exam:
To be eligible, you must complete the Written Exam through the National Testing Network (NTN) by April 1st, 2025 at 5:00 PM. Your scores will be sent directly to Clark County Fire District 6 after completing the exam.
Candidates can take the exam multiple times, please check the NTN calendar for available testing dates.
Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic Applicants:
There is NO minimum written test score requirement for the Lateral level process through National Testing Network. If you do not meet the Lateral level applicant requirements, please apply through the entry level paramedic posting through the National Testing Network.
Interested lateral candidates who do not have a current written test score through National Testing Network can visit Public Safety Testing to create an account and apply on-line for Clark County Fire District 6. Physical Abilities Test (CPAT):
Applicants must submit valid CPAT credentials dated between December 28, 2024, and April 1st, 2025. CPAT documentation must be received by April 1st, 2025. A valid CPAT accepted from NTN or PST.
CPAT orientation and practice tests are available and encouraged before the deadline. Please upload CPAT results to your NTN profile or email them.
EMS Certification:
Proof of valid EMT-P certification (National Registry or Washington State EMT-P) is required for all applicants. If out-of-state EMT-B or EMT-P, must obtain Washington certification within six months of hire. Upload your certification to NTN or email it by April 1st, 2025.
Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ):
A completed PHQ must be uploaded to your NTN account by April 1st, 2025, 5:00 PM. The PHQ serves as your formal application to Clark County Fire District 6.

Community Information:
Clark County is located in the beautiful southwestern part of the State of Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. Clark County offers excellent livability and a relatively low cost of living. The area is experiencing a positive cycle of new construction growth and development. The State of Washington has no state income tax.
Department Overview:
Formed in 1954, Clark County Fire District 6 protects and serves a population of over 70,000 residents in a 37 square mile area. The District is adjacent to the city of Vancouver, WA. It is primarily urban and suburban and runs over 9,400 calls per year out of 4 fire stations. The District is governed by three elected Commissioners and provides fire suppression, rescue and non-transport ALS paramedic service. Current staffing is 75 FTE emergency response personnel and approximately 11 administrative personnel. The District is hiring six new members to replace current and expected vacancies. We are expanding our footprint with a new Pierce Tiller staffed with a 4-person company that will replace one engine at the end of 2025 as well as staffing our new Engineer positions.

Minimum Age: 21 years by the date of hire
Citizenship: Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Education: High School Diploma or GED (verification required)
Driver's License: Valid, state-issued driver's license required
Felony Convictions: Adult felony convictions are disqualifying
Vision Requirements: Must pass medical-physical exam
Veterans Preference: Available
