Responsibilities

The Law Enforcement School Resource Officer is responsible for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, misconduct, traffic and crowd control, criminal and traffic law enforcement, criminal and traffic accident investigation, community service and providing information regarding laws at the Collegiate High School in Panama City, University policy, distribution of information to the community and to provide programs and services geared towards 9th-12th grade students and staff and faculty.

  • Patrols primarily the FSU Collegiate High School campus in Panama City, for the primary purposes of seeking out and apprehending violators of Florida statutes, identifying and reporting safety hazards or concerns and providing a visible presence throughout campus to deter crime. Responds to burglar alarms, fire alarms, traffic accidents and other incidents or calls for service that may be reported.
  • Interacts and works closely with other law enforcement agencies and school resource officers to assist with investigations, safety concerns and any other law enforcement collaboration needed. Supports FSUPD's investigations unit by identifying and interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects. Secures crime scenes, assists with evidence collection and taking witness statements.
  • Writes and submits reports with all pertinent details related to criminal activity, to include persons crimes, property crimes and other miscellaneous incidents on the Collegiate School at FSU Panama City's campus with a bearing on safety and security.
  • Travels with students when classes are being held at FSU Panama City Campus and carries out SRO duties while at that location.
  • Protects the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in and around the FSU Collegiate High School campus through traffic control and traffic coordination. Provides security services for scheduled events occurring both on FSUPC's main campus, Florida Gulf Coast College campus and the Collegiate School at FSU PC's campus. Responds to and patrols FSUPC's main campus as needed in the event of an emergency, disaster or other unforeseen occurrences.
  • Supports the Collegiate School at FSU PC goals by providing guidance and assistance to the administration on day-to-day security operations and special events. Assists the administration in the evaluation of students associated with Behavioral Threat Assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of FSUPD and Florida State University.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency.

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must meet the requirements of Section 943.13, Florida Statutes, and the ability to pass the state certification exam for Law Enforcement Officers within six months of being hired.
  • A valid State of Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior school resource officer experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Knowledge of University facilities and parking infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to adhere to ethical business practices and promote ethical behavior.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to deal with crises and manage sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to use a firearm proficiently per standards set by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC).
  • Ability to utilize self defense procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform First Aid response.
