Job Description

Under general supervision of the Specialty Courts Administrator & Program Supervisor, the Drug Tester provides urine collection services to participants enrolled in various Specialty Courts programs.  Primarily, this position will administer a breathalyzer test and urine test to monitor participants’ abstinence from substances.  This position also routinely assists program staff with administrative tasks. Must be available to work 5:30 AM to 1 PM, any day during the week including weekends and holidays (drug testing is random and schedule varies from week to week. Drug tester will know schedule 30 days in advance).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
  1. Administer breathalyzer testing and observed urine collection testing according to the National Association of Drug Court Professional standards.  This includes direct observation of the collection of urine samples from the participants of the same gender.
  2. Follow laboratory standards for drug testing confirmations including adherence to the chain of custody policies.
  3. Complete data entry in the Drug Court Case Management Information System regarding substance abuse testing, court incentives/sanctions, ancillary services, and fee assignment.
  4. Testify at court regarding results of contested screens when necessary.
  5. Maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
  6. Perform administrative tasks as directed by program staff.
  7. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Must possess a high school diploma or GED.  Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license with acceptable driving record.  Applicant must be male gender in order to collect urine from participants of male gender (bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ)).

This is a 37.5 hours a week position.  Eligible for full benefits.
