Job Description

Lakeland Community College is seeking applications for a Head Esports Coach. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of a varsity Esports program adhering to college, conference, NJCAAE, and other affiliate Esports organization/tournament rules and regulations. The position will report to the college’s athletic director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish, promote, and operate an Esports program for the campus community.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the NJCAAE and other affiliate Esports organizations.
  • Develop collegiate-level team(s) for competition. Monitor player activities for adherence to established policies and ensure appropriate player conduct and team compliance.
  • Provide guidance and input on games selected for competition and design of Esports facility.
  • Recruit and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes to grow program.
  • Plan and conduct practices, competitions, and assist with game day preparations.
  • Assist in developing game schedules and tournaments in accordance with the NJCAAE.
  • Assist with the academic retention program for student athletes.
  • Assist with fundraising and obtaining sponsorships for the Esports program.
  • Develop and organize camps, clinics, and promotional events.
  • Collaborate with athletics staff in scheduling facilities as needed.
  • Coordinate streaming of competitions and reporting of results.
  • Maintain operations of Esports facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education/Training and Experience Required/Preferred
  • An Associate’s degree or certificate from an accredited institution in a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree or Esports coaching certificate is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of coaching experience at the high school, club, college, or professional level required.
  • Related graduate student or intern experiences may be acceptable.
  • Knowledge of NJCAAE and other national Esports affiliate/organization rules and regulations is preferred.
  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required/Preferred:
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and some weekends;
  • Ability to coach, teach and train student-athletes in skills and strategies related to competition;
  • Strong leadership skills; well organized; works efficiently;
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students in being academically successful;
  • Ability to mentor, maintain discipline, respect and standards of behavior;
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and public relations skills.
  1. Physical Activity Level:
  • Some sitting; mostly standing and walking throughout the course of the day.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  

This is a part-time, non-continuing salaried position with pay distributed during the season. The annual pay for this position is a prorated stipend of $10,000.
