Research Associate

Position Function
This position requires an experienced scientist to use advanced plant biotechnology approaches, microbiology, and molecular biology in researching new solutions for citrus greening disease. Fundamental research will advance our understanding of the biotechnology to transiently modify plant phenotypes with a specific focus on developing field-deployable treatments for citrus greening disease.
Incumbent is expected to work with the PI to develop research projects, develop experiments involving host-pathogen-vector interactions in the citrus greening disease pathosystem, conduct research to improve symbiont technology to combat HLB, to present results at professional meetings, conferences and internal Cornell and external seminars; submit research results in peer reviewed publications and patents. Incumbent will mentor junior trainees in molecular biology and microbiology on collaborative projects. Include info related to patent writing, mentoring responsibilities. Incumbent will participate in weekly lab meetings, individual meetings with the PI and other project personnel, and write weekly reports. Incumbent will maintain orderly lab records.

Requirements
Ph.D. in microbiology
Experience with plant transformation techniques, sterile techniques, patent writing, mentoring, symbiont technology are required

CALS Hiring rate for this position is $80,000/year.
