Job Description

Basic Function: Responsible for working closely with the Restaurant Manager, to ensure a smooth and efficient restaurant operation. Greets and thanks all arriving/departing guests cordially and cooperates in assisting the Dining Room staff in offering the best possible service to hotel guests. Fosters a positive work attitude among other associates. Essential Duties:

• Understands the role of Cashier-Host/Hostess with regard to guest acknowledgment and guest satisfaction.
• Properly controls and assigns table to keep optimum service and fairness. Maintains all reservations and group seating assignments.
• Assists the Dining Room Supervisor in the management of Dining Room Staff. Fills in for Supervisor as necessary.
• Executes the practices of counting, verifying and opening the cash drawer and distribution of staff checks.
• Handles shift closing procedures including cashier check-out, verification of receipts, and staff check reports. Prepares all cashier reports and food abstracts accurately.
• Responds to all telephone inquiries promptly and efficiently. Records advance dining reservations and write-ups take-out orders, as appropriate.
• As needed collects cash or charge payments from guests. Makes change for cash transactions and prepares and processes voucher for credit card or room charge purchases.
• At Supervisor’s request, prepares and assists in conducting a Pre-Meal Meeting to include station assignments, uniform and hygiene standards, menu information, specials, daily functions’ information, table maintenance, break assignments and sidework.
• Maintains a clean and well-organized facility.
• Handles guest problems with a mature and rations approach.
• Maintains lighting and air conditioning/heating levels in accordance with hotel standards and to ensure guest comfort.

• Supports room service function when necessary. Verifies room service checks.
• Assists dining room staff in setting up and clearing tables, when necessary
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

• Knowledge of basic cash handling procedures such as cash transactions, traveler’s checks, room charges, credit cards, employee and other discounts, etc.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand basic English in order to communicate effectively with guests and other hotel associates.
• Must have a friendly, helpful personality enabling one to handle guest relations pleasantly and effectively. Must have a pleasant telephone manner.
• Must be able to organize and motivate staff.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of up to four hours in length and be able to bend and stoop on occasion. Must be able to exert well paced mobility and to escort guests to other parts of the facility as circumstances dictate.

• Basic knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping procedures is preferable.
• Prior restaurant experience either as a host/hostess, cashier or server is preferable.

• T.I.P.S. certification
• In-depth course detailing operation of hotel’s food service function.
• Overview of hotel’s billing practices.
• Training in providing quality guest service.
• Must complete all brand required training in the prescribed time frame.
