JOB SUMMARY

The UConn Library seeks two proactive, collaborative, and learner-centered Research & Instruction Librarians to join the Jeremy Richard Library on the UConn Stamford campus. The librarians will work across humanities, sciences, social sciences, and business disciplines engaging with students, faculty, and staff on curricular and co-curricular efforts. Reporting to the Stamford Campus Library Director, the librarians will collaborate and build successful working partnerships across the UConn community to positively impact the holistic student experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as a Research and Instruction Librarian across humanities, sciences, social sciences, and business disciplines.
  • Designs and teaches information literacy and subject-based instruction sessions and provides reference and research services highlighting the library's collections and services.
  • Builds and sustains working relationships within the UConn Library and with academic and administrative units such as the First Year Writing Program, Tutoring Center, and Student Success on the Stamford campus to identify, develop, and promote learning experiences that support information literacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
  • Incorporates principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice into services and collections related to the position. 
  • Engages in outreach with students and faculty to align and integrate the UConn Library into curricular and co-curricular efforts.
  • Participates in collaborative campus committees, programs, and activities.
  • Engages in collections across their lifecycle, including development, management, and assessment. 
  • Provides general and specialized research and reference services, including the UConn Library's online reference services.
  • Engages with professional activities at a statewide, regional, and/or national level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A graduate-level degree in a field relevant to the position or a graduate degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution (or an international equivalent). 
  2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of library and information science and the ability to provide information literacy instruction. 
  3. Ability to provide research and reference support.
  4. Ability to make a positive contribution to a culture of inclusion and respect. 
  5. Demonstrated public service skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
  6. Ability to be successful in outreach and engagement efforts.
  7. Ability to align current library tools and services to support learning, research, publications, and scholarship among stakeholders.
  8. Ability to create and promote online research guides and learning objects that meet stakeholder needs.
  9. Reliable, effective, and professional interpersonal and communication skills. 

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR LIBRARIAN 2 ONLY

  1. Minimum of three years post-graduate related professional experience. 
  2. Success in establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships. 
  3. Evidence of active engagement with professional activities at a statewide, regional, and/or national level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Evidence of providing instruction around business research (finance, business, and marketing disciplines).
  2. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Advanced knowledge of and evidence of commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice.
  4. Evidence of a commitment to professional development and continual learning. 

APPOINTMENT TERMS

These two openings are permanent, full-time, primarily onsite, hybrid optional positions based on the UConn Stamford campus. Work schedules are considered in accordance with the university's Alternate Work Arrangements policies and procedures.
