Job Title: Senior R&D Scientist – Geophysics General Description: Sinopec Tech Houston has an immediate opening for a Senior Research Scientist in reservoir geophysics project focused on elastic seismic inversion technology. This position will be responsible for the development of cut-edge elastic wave-equation seismic inversion technology and algorithm for reservoir characterization for reservoir characterization and geoscience application to support Sinopec subsidiaries ’s upstream projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Develop innovative elastic wavefield simulation algorithm.
- Design and develop target-orient multi-parameter seismic inversion algorithm and implementation strategy.
- Advise and lead the development of supportive modules associated with target-oriented elastic seismic inversion.
- Working with software developer, design, develop, and maintain source codes and assist in its validation and integration into internal software platform.
- Create and maintain software documentation.
- Mentor and share expertise throughout the team.
- Preparing technical reports for management and other parties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Strong background in acoustic and elastic seismic wavefield propagation theory. Hand on experience in elastic seismic wavefield numerical simulation, seismic inversion, and related research topics.
- Strong and proven programming skills are required in 2 or more of the following languages: C++/C/Fortran. Knowing CUDA is considered good additional positives.
- Strong numerical analysis and problem-solver skills.
- Familiar with Linux and high-performance computing systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on delivering results with deadline.
- Good interpersonal skills and demonstration of strong teamwork abilities.
- Ability to travel 10% annually.
Minimum Required Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience: - Master’s or PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Geophysics, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited university.
- At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Domestic and international travel may be required
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
