The Northeast Indiana Veterinary ER & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) is looking to add a full-time Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our ICU team on 3rd shift!

NIVES is a 24-hour referral and critical care hospital located in Fort Wayne, IN. NIVES provides specialized care in Small Animal Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Critical Care Services. We serve the clients of NE Indiana, SE Michigan & SW Ohio.

Ideal candidates are friendly, detail-oriented, and have strong multi-tasking skills. All candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle difficult situations with sensitivity and tact. 

Schedule:
  • 3rd shift - alternating weekends off
  • 10- and 12-hour shifts, set schedule
Compensation:
  • Compensation is based on experience and skill level.
  • We offer shift & weekend shift differentials.
Job Summary:

As a Veterinary Assistant in the ICU at NIVES, you will assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing care to animals, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring excellent client service. Responsibilities:
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain the ICU, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinarians.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and behaviors of animals.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures, including collecting samples and conducting tests.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Provide compassionate care to animals and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Assist with client education on pet care and wellness.
  • Help manage inventory, including requesting and stocking supplies.
  • Support the team in general clinic operations and maintenance
Qualifications:
  • 2 years experience working in a veterinary setting
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of animal care and behavior.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with veterinary software is a plus.
  • Ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes.
