Boutique winery with production of 5,000 cases / year seeking full-time winemaker. This is a great opportunity to make your mark in the wine world, as a number of our estate wines have scored 90+ points in the past. We are located in central NJ, 10 miles from Princeton, 1 hour from New York City and Philadelphia.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee viticulture and coordinate harvest with vineyard manager
• Conduct all phases of winemaking including destem, crush, fermentation, filtration, log maintenance, aging, blending and bottling
• Coordinate with tasting room manager to ensure production meets customer needs
• Maintain sanitary operating conditions
• Federal and state compliance reporting (we will train as needed)
• Provide wine tastings and education to tasting room staff and customers on a limited basis
• Submit wines into wine competitions
• Continue to develop and implement local winery best practices through ongoing education and coordination with local winemakers that we currently work with
• This is a full time exempt position, and the work is cyclical. You should expect long days during harvest. During slow periods, you will provide assistance working in the tasting room and /or working in the vineyard.
Qualifications
• 2 years prior winemaking experience
• People person who enjoys talking with customers
• Good palate capable of identifying the wine’s characteristics
• Good documentation skills
• Capable of lifting 50 pounds overhead and working in winery production environment which includes catwalks, wet conditions, variable weather, etc.
• Ability and desire to take on the role of winemaker with associated manager responsibilities
• Self motivated
