Job Description

The Motor Calibration Engineer is responsible for leading calibration development to standalone powertrain module or part of Hybrid control module from first dyno, into early mule vehicle to production on the next generation of Stellantis’s Electrified Propulsion Systems. The scope of responsibility spans the application and optimization of control systems into production for all Hybrid and BEV Propulsion Systems. The calibrator will document and justify all motor calibration changes through rigorous development and test plans – both dyno and vehicle. The calibrator will present and justify changes to lead calibrator and Sr. Management as appropriate. There is also extensive involvement with FCA teams in Europe and Asia as well as outside suppliers.

The calibrator will participate or lead the Center of Excellence (CoE) team for their functional areas. They will review any new calibrations in their area, work with other calibrators and controls engineers to ensure initial values for new calibrations are correct by reviewing software change requests in the new release (performed at each new SW release). They will coordinate calibration merges with other functional leads and have production release responsibility for the motor control calibrations.

The calibrator will support dyno commissioning and first-run activities, thorough work breakdown structure execution and post-processing of data to ensure motor calibration functional objectives are met. Calibrators will work closely with the Motor Controls and Software teams to ensure features are working sufficiently and efficiently, as well as tracking suppliers to ensure program deliverables are met. They will provide training to all new calibration engineers and/or anyone else needing training on the operation of electrified propulsion system vehicles and motor controls, calibration tools, and system level comprehension. They will support trips and report a summary of activities and findings for Sr. Management review. The calibrators will work with the cross-functional CoE teams to ensure best practices are followed and support process improvements and calibration process methodology documentation. They will be the lead contact point for system issues in their functional area.

This individual will have also demonstrated the ability to work will with others. They must be a team player, supporting and promoting team accomplishments versus personal achievement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related Degree
  • 5+ Years calibration experience in electrified powertrain control system.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and with others
  • High level of analytic ability and creativity
  • Ability to balance work effectively on multiple issues
  • Action a disciplined test plan and verification process to ensure quality calibrations are released.
  • Must have strong knowledge of the Powertrain system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of control system development tools such as Matlab Simulink and GT Power
  • Experience in Powertrain Control solutions development (powertrain control algorithms, On-board Diagnostics/OBD, embedded software)
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of electric Motors / Machines and Power Electronics and electrification power flow
  • Experience in electric motor/ engine/transmission design and development and/or Powertrain Systems Engineering
  • 6-8 Years calibration experience in electrified propulsion.
  • 1 Experience electric motor calibration domain is plus.
  • Masters Degree in Engineering
  • DFSS Green Belt
