Job Description

Starlight is Kansas City’s oldest and largest outdoor performing arts venue, stewarding a $20M+ annual budget and a year-round staff of 45+ full-time employees alongside hundreds of seasonal team members and volunteers. The Facilities Manager is responsible for managing all physical operations, safety systems, and grounds of the venue, as well as daily and event-based housekeeping and event setups. This position participates in a working capacity in all areas of facilities operations.

Required Accountabilities & Deliverables:

  • Embraces Starlight’s mission, vision, values.
  • Manage interviewing, hiring, training and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Manage full-time and seasonal facilities and horticulture.
  • Manage all event changeovers, room set-ups, and installation and removal of retractable seating.
  • Manage all daily venue and event housekeeping.
  • Oversee preventative, routine, and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct all facility inspections, waste and recycling collection, separation, and removal.
  • Manages overall snow removal within the boundaries of the venue.
  • Order and document supplies, material and equipment procurement.
  • Maintains contents of the MSDS binder and all related requirement therein.
  • Management of the automated controls system, work orders and preventative maintenance.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for venue emergencies such as fire alarms, security alarms, etc.
  • Coordinate and supervise outside contractors.
  • Manage projects and capital improvements outlined by the VP of Operations. After-hours, on-call availability, and some Saturday and Sunday work are required.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of management principles and best practices.
  • Exhibit good communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of the operation of equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, tools, fire hydrants, power washers, fountains, plumbing, electrical, building automated controls, floor scrubbers, etc.
  • Awareness of safety/risk management procedures.
  • Knowledge of City, County, State, and Federal building system inspection requirements and regulations. Able to be on standby in case of any emergency including checking the campus out-of-hours depending on the nature or gravity of the situation.
 
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Venue, Operations, Sports or Entertainment Management, or equivalent work experience of 1 - 3 years of arts industry/facility/event management.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
 
Other Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to crawl, crouch, balance, stoop, kneel, or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to use ladders up to 30 ft. and work comfortably at heights exceeding 25 ft.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

 
This role is an indoor and outdoor job with a demanding varying workweek schedule of 40+ hours per week, during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but these hours may vary depending on weather, events, holidays, and other factors.
