Position: Portrait Editing Manager (PEM)

Location: Maitland, FL

Compensation: Annual Salary, with benefits, based on experience

Bonus: Quarterly bonus opportunities, based on performance

Reports to : Director of Studio Operations

Position Overview

The Portrait Editing Manager will oversee the post-production process, ensuring all portraits meet our fine art standard, and collaborate closely with photographers, studio managers, and clients to achieve the desired final look.

The Portrait Editing Manager is responsible for managing a team of in-house and remote editors, ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of all portrait editing projects. This role involves overseeing the assignment of work, reviewing edits for quality and consistency, and managing the recruitment, training, and development of the editing team. The Portrait Editing Manager will work closely with both internal and external partners to deliver exceptional final portraits.

This role requires an exceptional eye for detail, mastery in editing tools, and leadership skills to drive the efficiency and performance of the retouching team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Team Management : Manage a team of in-house, remote, and outsourced editors, ensuring that work is evenly distributed and deadlines are consistently met.
  2. Work Assignment : Assign editing projects to the appropriate team members based on workload, skill set, and project requirements. Coordinate between in-house and remote teams to ensure seamless workflow.
  3. Quality Control : Review edited portraits to ensure they meet the company’s standards for quality, style, and consistency. Provide feedback and revisions as needed to maintain high-quality results.
  4. Hiring & Recruitment : Oversee the hiring process for new editors, including interviews, assessments, and onboarding. Ensure that the team is staffed with skilled individuals capable of meeting production goals.
  5. Training & Development : Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for the editing team, focusing on skills improvement, new editing techniques, and maintaining the company’s artistic vision.
  6. Operational Efficiency : Continuously create, monitor, and improve standardized editing workflows and processes to ensure efficiency, consistency, and scalability, especially as the business expands.
  7. Collaboration : Work closely with the photography, production, and client services teams to ensure edits meet client expectations and align with the overall portrait experience.
  8. Performance Monitoring : Track the performance and output of both in-house and outsourced editors, ensuring that all team members are meeting productivity and quality targets.
  9. Process Management: Implement tools and technologies to streamline the retouching process, improving efficiency without compromising quality. Stay up to date with industry trends, software, and techniques in portrait editing, ensuring our team remains on the cutting edge of the field.
  10. Problem-Solving : Address any challenges that arise in the editing process, such as delays, quality concerns, or technical issues, to keep production on track.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a management role within the portrait, photography, or creative editing field.
  • Proficient in portrait retouching and editing software, including (but not limited to) Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Shootproof, Dropbox, Mac operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of color theory, tonal balance, and advanced retouching techniques.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience managing remote and in-house teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of artistic styles and the ability to maintain a consistent aesthetic across all projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proven experience in organizing workflows and setting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with outsourcing and managing external editing partners.
  • Experience in fine art portrait retouching, including skin retouching, color correction, and background enhancements.
  • Experience training and developing creative teams.

Additional Information 

  • Flexible schedule, approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Communicate from 9:00 am-6 pm EST daily.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
